Backpacker Travel Insurance

If you're setting off on a longer adventure (a gap year, sabbatical, working holiday), backpacker travel insurance is designed with your journey in mind. Unlike standard single trip cover, which typically suits one-off holidays, backpacker policies offer extended protection for trips up to 12 months, with the flexibility to come and go if you’re away for longer than 3 months.

Our backpacker policies provide cover across a wide range of essentials, giving you peace of mind whether you’re in Southeast Asia, Australia, South America or hopping between them all. As well as the usual travel insurance features, we also include protection tailored for longer, more independent trips.

• Cancellation and trip interruption cover up to £2,000
• Emergency medical and dental treatment abroad up to £10 million
• Emergency transport and repatriation, including search and rescue
• Baggage cover up to £1,500, with high-value item limits
• Personal liability cover up to £2 million
• Travel delay and missed departure compensation
• Cover for temporary return visits home (up to 14 days at a time, if travelling for 3 months or more)
• Winter sports add-on available for up to 31 days

Our policy is available to UK residents aged 18 to 44 and includes both Essential and Essential Plus levels. You must be fit to travel and not travelling against medical advice. If you have pre-existing medical conditions, we can assess them during your medical screening to confirm whether cover is available.
